The Challenge

Yet, despite its impact, no global standard exists for measuring isolation. Without data, isolation remains invisible. And what remains invisible cannot be solved.

A New Solution

The International Isolation Index is a pioneering global tool designed to identify and measure isolation in all its forms. By harnessing advances in geospatial technology, satellite imagery, and socio-economic data, the Index will provide a clear, real-time picture of where isolation is most severe and how it can be reduced.

With this knowledge, communities can advocate for change, humanitarian agencies can prioritise resources, and policymakers can make informed decisions that expand access and restore choice to those who have been left behind.

With 80 years of experience bridging the gap for remote communities, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is initiating the development of the International Isolation Index, with PA Consulting enabling its design and implementation. The Index is being developed as a practical, scalable tool that will inform action, shape policy, and support communities in reducing isolation on their own terms.
